William Brown Tobacco Barn

Burley tobacco is the type grown in the southern states. This barn is part of the Brown farm, it was used exclusively for the heat-drying process required for this type of pipe and cigar tobacco.  The external old firebox made of red brick is visible in the painting.  The heat was channeled into the tall narrow barn and through the tobacco before exiting out of the large vent on the roof of the barn.
