Badiac-Willowbrook Barn
This stately cantilevered bank barn was strategically planted into the crown of a gentle hill providing a commanding. The Badiac family owned this farm and it is believed they built the barn. Extra effort went into making it eye pleasing.
Trim around the windows and wooden louvered vents are two examples of careful planning and added detail.
The upper level of the barn has two large wagon doors that open at ground level on the west side. Two doors allowed horses with hay wagons to pull into the barn through one door, turn and exit out the other. Beautifully hand-hewn and pegged timbers still hold this sturdy structure. At least four of the timbers are over 50 feet in length, unspliced.
The lower-level stable area has access doors to the outside. The angle captured in the painting shows this lower side of the barn.
It was a glorious spring morning in 2010 when I set up and did a plein air painting of this barn. The light of early morning often casts a rosy hue. It is a favorite time to paint. This oil painting is 15 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
