Castle Knoll Farm Barns
Lick Creek zigzags through the hillocks and knolls of Orange County. This cluster of barns is scattered over a hillside very near this famous creek.
The farm features four major barns and a number of other buildings once actively used to help serve the food needs of the nearby and famous West Baden Springs Hotel.
Lee W. Sinclair owned West Baden Springs Hotel in 1915, when this farm was built. Since the farm served the hotel, it is possible he owned it also.
An artist could spend many days and fill many canvases capturing the inspiring scenes from this expansive farm. I painted one canvas.
The four major barns feature many details and additions such as dormers, fancy ventilators, sculpted trim around multiple many-paned windows, and glazed tile silos complete with their own roofs. Decorated lightning rods top many of the roofs.
In its time, the farm would have been a stunning showcase, full of activity and production. Cared for by its current owner, the farm is quiet and peaceful, featuring a pleasant breeze and chirping birds.
In June 2015, I spent a large part of a day within the realm of this extensive farm complex. In August 2015, I completed a studio oil painting from sketches made on location. Canvas size 18 x 36 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
