Parsley-Wilson Barn
The farmstead was established before 1856 and is located in a beautiful section of western Johnson County. The attractive and historic home was built the same year. This barn was built in 1930, to replace the original 1856 barn, which was destroyed by fire.
Built as a gambrel-roofed dairy barn, it has gone through many changes as farming has evolved. It is positioned with one side on a lower grade allowing for a stable area slightly lower than the rest of the barn. Currently, the barn is home to a variety of farm animals including donkeys, horses and goats.
Animals can be so funny and curious. I set up my painting supplies to complete a plein air oil painting and one very inquisitive goat, shown in the painting, spent most of my painting time directly in front of me. If there had not been a fence between us, (which I chose to eliminate in the painting) I feel quite sure it would have investigated the paints, brushes and probably even smeared paint around the canvas! The canvas size is 14 x 26 inches. I painted in June 2015.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
