Rentschler Barn

The exact construction date for this unique gable bank barn is unknown. Estimations place it in the 1880s. It is a 45-foot square barn. The barn's timber frame is pegged and stands proudly on a limestone foundation. The barn is strategically placed on the crest of a hill in the rolling countryside.

Unique it is, as the gable roof with gable ends seems to play a trick on the eye; it does not appear to be square. This three-bay barn has access on the upper gable end to the center and elevated bay of the barn. The original old floor planks are still in place, some measuring up to 17 inches in width.

The two outer bays are lower and were the stable areas of the barn. A multi-leveled hayloft covers all three bays, and a hayfork and rail are still in place along the gable ridge. The barn is retired but is well-maintained on this beautiful farm.

Meeting wonderful barn owners was an added plus while working on my project, something I had not anticipated and now greatly treasure. I sketched this barn in December 2014, and then completed a studio painting guided by the sketches and photographs. The oil painting is 18 x 30 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
