Amy and David Dance Round Barn
This round barn was built in 1906; it was originally a dairy barn and is often referred to as the Sam Bold Barn. The large hay dormer above the main entrance characterizes this barn.
Inside the loft, a circular pulley system was used to move the hay. A silo was once located in the center, but it was removed along with the original cupola after it was struck by lightning in the 1950s.
The barn is in excellent condition. The owners envision renovating their unique structure into a wedding and banquet destination.
My eyes marveled at the colors dancing in the light and in the shadows on this barn. It was an amazing sight. It takes time to see these subtleties. That is why it is so important to plein air paint. A quick snapshot will leave some of the beauty and character behind.
I was so focused on the painting process I neglected the essentials; this experience reminded me to take water and drink it. After this barn, I made a checklist and still referred to it each time I set out on a painting trip. It was a spring morning in 2005 and the canvas size for this oil painting is 16 x 20 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
