Bradfield Corner Barn
Bradfield Corner is a well-known area in Parke County thanks to Reason Bradfield, a successful early farmer. In the 1860s, he built a home, this barn and a number of other out buildings, forming an enclave that became Bradfield Corner.
This barn was constructed of hand-hewn hefty timbers pegged together. In the early 1990s, the farm was purchased by the Barnett family and has gone through extensive restoration. One of the barn's rare original timbers is unspliced and measures 56 feet in length.
Although no longer used for farming, the Barnett family treasures this historic barn and home.
It was the fall of 2015 when I came upon this barn and knew it should be part of my project. The reds vary from warmer to cooler depending on the angle of the surface to the late afternoon light. I spent time sketching and photographing the barn and then completed a studio oil painting in June 2016. Canvas size is 18 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
