Carpenter-Morgan Barn
In 1992, the Carpenter family built the house and the barn on this farm in northern Hamilton County. In the 1960s, Frances and Robert Morgan acquired the farm and raised a large and active family with a focus on farming activities centered in and around the barn.
Two Simmental Cattle facing each other are carefully designed into the asphalt shingles of this gambrel-roofed barn. They are a pleasing addition to the farm but they also tell a story; Simmental Cattle were raised on this farm and shown at the county and state fairs for many years.
The barn was a central part of the farm, along with the Simmental Cattle they raised for show. The Morgan family also used the barn for raising other breeds of cattle and for grain storage.
The name "Frances" is also designed into the shingles. Animals, words, tractors, and many other designs were worked into interlocking shingles gracing many farms in the region. The barn and farm remain in the Morgan family and are actively used and maintained.
It was a hazy June day when I found this barn, perfect weather for corn. The subtle colors dancing in the whites ranged from cool rosy tones to warm golden tones. I set up my easel and completed this oil painting. It was 2010. The canvas size is 18 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
