Doug Long Barn
Indiana is a state known for many picturesque places. Within Greene County, this barn rests in one such place.
The rolling countryside encircling this barn and farm is blanketed with textural patches of fields, groves of trees and ever meandering streams. This gable-roofed barn was built around 1910, fashioned out of large sawmill-cut timbers, carefully pegged.
This barn is essentially a Midwest three-bay barn with the center bay being a pass-through. The outer bays are stable areas for cattle. An elaborate and large hanging gable protects the opening to the loft and allows the hayfork and rail to extend well past the walls of the barn into the hood area. Some of the hefty floor planks in the loft measure up to 17 inches in width. Although the barn was empty the day I was there, cattle regularly visit the barn. It is appreciated and well-maintained by its current owner.
I had the opportunity to spend time at this barn. Doing so adds depth to a painting. Later, in my studio, I created an oil painting size 15 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
