Cedar Crown Farm Barn
Strategically placed on the crest of a hill and surrounded by picturesque and fertile land, this farm and barn can be found in the rolling hills north of Cedar Lake in central Lake County.
It is a gambrel-roofed dairy barn built around 1920 and has an attached glazed tile silo. Ventilators, as well as five lightning rods complete with glass globes, grace the roof. Still visible in the loft is the hayfork and rail that would have been kept very busy supplying the needed hay for the extensive dairy operation on the main level of the barn.
The lower level has multiple double Dutch doors providing easy movement of the cattle traffic in and out twice a day. Windows around the perimeter provided ample light and ventilation for the milking parlor.
Although it is no longer used for animals or for a dairy operation, the barn is loved and maintained by its current owners.
I started this oil painting just after sunrise in September 2014. Editing out multiple trees was required to capture the hidden barn. The barn owners provided delicious coffee to sharpen my painting skills. I painted a canvas size 14 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
