City of Rochester Round Barn
There is quite a story behind this barn. The Kindig family built it in 1910. It is believed to be one of the first build in Fulton County.
The barn was built for the Wideman brothers, who used it for cattle, hogs and horses. Later owners made changes to the barn by adding windows and altering the cupola.
In 1951, the farm came under the care of John and Selena Gerig. Later the Gerig family donated it to the City of Rochester. A grant allowed it to be moved into Rochester and eventually restored. It now serves as a pro shop and office called the Round Barn Golf Club. Thoughtful design helped preserve and show quite a bit of the old barn structure amid the changes made to accommodate its repurpose.
Driving through Rochester in December 2003, I was captivated by the winter light and the cast shadows dancing across this beautiful barn. It was in its new location but not yet restored. I loved the barn and stopped to photograph it; it was too cold to paint.
I'm so glad I did, for it is these old photos I dug out and used to do the studio painting completed in January 2013, almost ten years later. It is an oil painting, 12 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
