Doctor Family Barn

In 1994 this barn was rescued from its impending demise. The Doctor family acquired the barn and then slowly and carefully moved the suffering structure to its current location. The construction date of thus barn is unknown, but it was built as a cantilevered bank barn. A new foundation was prepared and the barn became repurposed. It now rests on the edge of a hill with a full vista of farm, fields and forests.

Features include a hand-hewn and pegged timber frame with two cupolas gracing the gable ridge. The red barn has distinctive white trim. The architectural features include a white arch on each red door, something common only regionally.

The barn's new farm home includes a number of other barns, outbuildings and a large old brick farmhouse. I got brave this winter day in December 2009 and decided to plein air oil paint this barn. Wow it was cold, my toes were not happy and my paint was stiff. I picked a large canvas too, 18 x 36 inches!

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
