Dorsam-Hopf Mail Pouch Barn

In 1940, in a land sale, John Dorsam purchased the land where this barn is located. The barn was bult within five years of the land purchase.

Mail Pouch Tobacco approached Mr. Dorsam when the barn was new and an agreement was struck for painting the Mail Pouch sign on the east face of the barn. This end of the barn is very prominent along highway 231. The family believes the agreement included free tobacco and $100. The barn is no longer in use.

In the fall of 2006, I found this unusual barn and spent a morning sketching the warm morning light and the cool shadow shapes. Later, using my reference materials, I completed an oil painting in my studio, canvas size 18 x 36 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
