Grace’s Barn

Picturesque Franklin County is home to this large dairy barn. The construction date is unknown.

The barn has multiple doors and windows on each end and on both sides. This would have provided easy movement and plenty of light for the twice-daily milking routine. The unusually constructed hayloft has a double-flight staircase located near the barn's center. The hayloft floor is higher in the center and lower on both sides, contributing to its enormous capacity for storage. A large central hole in the loft floor eased the work when tossing hay to the floor below.

Although no longer used for dairy, the barn is home to a sizable herd of longhorn cattle. The farm also has a much older and smaller gable barn built with hand-hewn and pegged timbers. Both barns are cherished and well-maintained.

The early morning light added a rosy atmosphere to the whole scene. The reds on the barn took on a cooler hue. It was a beautiful fall morning in October 2007 when I set up my oil painting supplies and completed this 18 x 24 inch painting.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
