Heart Wood Acres Barn

Records for this large barn were lost in a fire at the DeKalb County Courthouse in the early 1900s. However, for the original barn, investigation has placed construction in the 1880s or 1890s.

Alterations on the barn were made circa 1910. The gable roof was replaced by a much taller and gracefully arched roof, which allows for more hay storage. The roof of wooden shake shingles is topped with three impressive lightning rods complete with a blue glass globe on each.

Placed on the crest of a gently sloping hill, this barn was once used for dairy. It is well-maintained.

This was the first barn I painted for my Heritage Barns of Indiana painting project. My idea wasn't totally fleshed out yet. It was a creative concept taking form. I wanted to hone my oil painting skills while also giving back to my community and my state. I wanted to capture the beauty in our farming heritage. It was September 2004. I set up my easel and created an 8 x 16 inch oil painting.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
