All Wright Farms Barn
The three-level Wright family gable barn was built in the 1890s. It is uniquely placed and tucked into the side of a hill. The main entry is accessible by an earthen ramp on the barn's side. Built from trees harvested on the family farm, the barn has a frame of hand-hewn and pegged timbers combined with sawmill-cut timbers.
The details built into this barn are both eye-pleasing and functional. The numerous vents and windows have gracefully carved trim. Two interesting cupolas have vents trimmed out for function and also beauty.
Actively used today by the Wright family, the barn's lower level houses animals, the middle level is storage and hay is stowed in the loft. The barn is a major fixture on the farm and continues to contribute every day.
It was not possible to plein air paint this barn from the angle that I preferred; it sets too close to a highway. I took many notes and sketches and photographed the barn. Then in January 2011, I completed a 16 x 20 inch oil painting in my studio.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
