Hill Family Barn

A small creek runs past this farm and barn south of Winchester, Indiana. It is a beautiful setting with the barn placed at the top of a rise.

Actually, it is two gable barns in one. The front of the barn is the top of the T and shown in the painting. Since there is no hayloft over the center aisle, the interior construction is on display showing how the builders blended the two barns together.

While not hand-hewn, both barn sections are pegged timber frames. An unusual grain bin is situated just inside and overhead. This would have allowed grain to be easily moved into wagons below. The barn remains an important part of this family's farming life.

It was May 2014, when I located this barn. I set up a 16 x 20 inch canvas on my oil painting easel and proceeded to study and capture the different reds expressed in the light and in the shadows.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
