Hoesel-Strand-Brown Barn
In 1894, this gable barn was built in a fertile farming area near the Tippecanoe River, in the northeast corner of Pulaski County where the river makes a swooping bend. The barn is located on the edge of a large and wonderfully shady grove of trees.
The farm was passed down through the original family, the Hoesels. Subsequently, John and Ella Strand acquired the farm. John Strand spent many years as a sharecropper with the Hoesels and fortunately was able to acquire a large portion on this beautiful and productive farm.
Descendants of the Strands currently own and operate the farm. The barn was originally used for dairy cows and workhorses. Currently, the barn is the hub of an active farm. It is home to a herd of very friendly Black Angus, geese and more.
In June 2005, I set up my oil painting supplies with a 12 x 16 inch canvas. The best perspective was from a shady spot in the pasture. The cattle grazed near me while I quietly painted. Finally, their curiosity got the best of them and soon I had cow noses sniffing the easel, my palette and even the painting. Their “cow talk” sounded as if they were sharing their opinions on my painting.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
