Hollingsworth-Cobb Barn

In 1930, Wayne B. Hollingsworth build this barn to replace the original, which had burned. His name was carefully lettered in white paint above the large wagon doors. It is still visible today since the eave protected the lettering from the weather. In 1988, Glenda and James Cobb purchased the property. It was the wonderful old barn that sealed the deal for them. Later, when the barn needed reroofing, the name Cobb was spelled out in contrasting shingles.

A most unique feature about this barn is the farming records jotted down on its back wall. The quick notes are a record of dates for cows, calves, sows and piglets.

The barn, which is now expanded, is well loved, used and maintained. It is a central hub of the Cobb family farm.

The late afternoon light on this barn washed out the red hues in the sunny areas and pumped up the hues in the shadows. The cast shadow of the tree branches on the barn door were filled with sky colors. I prepared sketches and photographed this barn on location and then did an oil painting in my studio. The 15 x 24 inch painting was completed in January 2013.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
