Huddleston Homestead Barn
The historical significance of this homestead did not escape the eye of Indiana Landmarks. The organization acquired this beautiful 1841 farm in 1966 with funds provided by Eli Lilly.
Considerable thought went into making this barn attractive as well as highly functional for this busy farm. The wooden louvered vents on both sides and on each gable end are painted with contrasting colors to accentuate the sculpted wood trim. The lone cupola is centered on the roof's ridge and also reflects the decorative aspects of the barn.
The beautiful and historic Huddleston Homestead is open for tours and more. Visit Indianalandmarks.org for further information.
After multiple visits to this homestead barn, I finally set up my plein air oil painting supplies in November 2011. The late afternoon light quickly faded, forcing me to complete the painting in my studio. When this happens, I always place color notes on the canvas. For example: I will mix the color for the side of the barn and place a bit in that area on the canvas. The same goes for other areas of the barn and surrounding landscape. Later, my painting will reflect what I experienced on location. I chose an 18 x 24 inch canvas.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
