Mendenhall Family Barn
This beautiful red barn, built in 1865, has seen seven generations of the same family. Unusual though true, it has passed through the female side. It is a well-maintained gable barn with two very ornate cupolas gracing the roof's ridge.
Each gable end and both sides have multiple windows trimmed out beautifully with sculpted wood accentuated by contrasting red and white paint. Because the barn has so many windows, the interior space is full of light. The time, care and talent that went into the design and construction of this barn are so obvious in its outstanding appearance.
Hand-hewn timbers pegged with sawmill-cut timbers show some of the alterations and renovations that have taken place within the barn reflecting changes in farming and rural life.
The painting was largely completed on location in July 2010. I had my easel and supplies set up in a field across the road from the barn. While painting, many Amish buggies passed by on the road. It seemed appropriate to include a buggy so l photographed several and later added one full of children. The oil painting is 18 x 36 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
