Salomon Farm Barn

This large and stately barn was built in 1871 and is a pass-through barn with stone foundation. Animals used the lower level; the access doors are located on the north end of the barn. Large wagon doors are located on each side of the barn. Sizeable earthen ramps on each side allowed for an easy approach to the barn.

This unique large barn exhibits hand-hewn timber-frame construction. It was used for cattle, other livestock and equipment storage. The Salomon family owned the farm and barn for over 100 years.

In 1996 the Salomon family donated the farm to the Fort Wayne, Indiana Parks and Recreation Department. Their desire was to have the farm become a historic working farm and park.

It was a beautiful fall day in 2008 when I set up my easel to capture the cool morning light on the side of the barn. The view across the pond added another interesting dimension to the finished 18 x 36 inch oil painting on canvas.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
