Raber Family Red Barn

This red barn complex is nestled in north central Daviess County. One family has owned this homegrown barn since the mid 1960s. The original barn, a small gable barn buried within the extended structure, is much older. The exact age is unknown.

Interestingly, the later building added to the barn features a pass-through, allowing hay to be moved from a wagon below into the hayloft of either the old barn or the newer one. This barn must have been very busy every day since a milking parlor consumed most of its interior space.

Although the barn isn't currently home for animals, extended family members care for this well-loved barn.

It was a hot day in June 2015, when I set up to plein air oil paint this barn complex. I waited for the long late afternoon light that tends to glow. Painting is such a joy when the light is softer. I used a canvas size 12x20 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
