Sandman-Garrison Barn
Longevity is on display in this barn, built in 1906 by Henry Sandman. On example is the slate roof that is still holding up after more than 100 years. Sandman went to extra effort to make his barn eye-pleasing and functional. Visual displays include gingerbread trim around each window. Also, the wooden louvered vents dress up each side and both gable ends of this unusual barn.
The scarf-cut Dutch doors and windows on the south end have a pent roof for some added protection. More Dutch doors are strategically placed around the perimeter of the barn for both design and efficiency.
The current owners acquired the barn and farm in 1988 and dedicated themselves to its badly needed restoration. The barn, now saved, is currently the home to an array of antique John Deere tractors.
Trees in foliage can sometimes block the desired perspective when painting outside. In this instance, I had to walk around trees and shrubs to get a glimpse of hidden parts. It was September 2014 and I chose a 16 x 20 inch canvas for this oil painting.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
