Stuckwish Round Barn
This round barn was built in 1910 during the peak of the round barn construction era taking place in Indiana. The advantages of a round barn were regularly promoted from 1902 through 1909 in THE INDIANA FARMER, an agriculture-based newspaper. Many of the round barns throughout the state can link their origins to this newspaper and Benton Steele, the designer and architect.
This is a pass-through barn. Animal stalls were built on both sides of the central pass-through. Most recently the barn was used to house mules, horses and cattle. Construction details such as sculpted rafter tails and a windowed cupola speak of a desire to not only make a functional barn, but one that is attractive as well.
Late afternoon light arches across the surface casting interesting shadows. The hues produced by the reflected light into those shadows are more vivid on a white surface. It was a joy to plein air oil paint on that late June day in 2005. The canvas size is 9 X 12 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
