Sycamore Hill Barn on the Pryor Brock Homestead

The exact age of this bank barn is unknown; however, it appears to be one of the earlier barns in the region. It is surrounded by fertile and beautiful farmland.

The hefty timbers are all hand-hewn and pegged together with precision and skill. The Victorian-Italianate home on the farm was built in 1878; the barn was most likely built during the same time period.

It is a bank barn with three levels. The upper two levels were for grain and hay storage. The lower level was reserved for animals.

The original Brock family descendants lived on the farm until 2006. A codicil prepared by them stated the structures on the property should be maintained and preserved. The current resident, mindful of the agreement, is maintaining and restoring the farmstead, including the beautiful old barn.

I set up my oil painting easel just as the sun came up on a beautiful sunny September day in 2014. The cool hues in the morning sky reflected on the east face of the barn and danced there with the tree's cast shadow. I couldn't paint a small painting; the scene demanded a panel 18 x 30 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
