Taylor-Bormann Barn
Eastern Whitley County is generally flat, but the farm where this barn is located is graced with just a bit of rolling and eye-pleasing countryside. There was just enough grade to build a very efficient and sturdy bank barn.
This barn was built in 1886 using hand-hewn and pegged timbers. It is a cantilevered three-bay barn with a large centered wagon door to the upper level.
The lower level or stable area faces south, adding to the comfort of animals through cold winters. A stone foundation is visible on the gable ends of the barn. The barn was built to last and it is still in excellent condition and well-maintained. The barn and farm had been in the Robert F. Taylor family since it was built in 1886. Recently, the farm changed ownership for the first time. The new owners plan on maintaining this Indiana treasure.
I caught a glimpse of this barn during the winter when foliage can't hide barns. So when the green of spring was rich, I did a plein air oil painting. It was May 2005 and I painted late in the day to capture light streaming across the front of the barn. I chose an 11 x 14 inch canvas.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
