Ubelhor Family Log Barn
When Michael and Philomena Ubelhor build this log barn in the 1880s, they created a now rare style of barn. This log beauty also can lay claim to its fourth generation in the family. It was originally a double-crib barn with an open area between the cribs. The roof extends on both sides of the barn to protect the openings to the cribs.
At some unknown date, a large access door was cut into the side of one crib. The opening was large enough to accommodate a wagon. This crib originally had a plank floor laid on top of logs but it was later removed.
The south crib remains with several doors leading into it, including one small animal door. A hayloft covers the whole crib. In the 1970s, the barn was retired and is currently used as storage.
The Ubelhors consider the barn a member of the family and keep it well-maintained for family connection, reserving its heritage and uniqueness.
I set up my plein air supplies late one afternoon in October 2015. The long fall light created subtle and unique colors inside and outside of this barn. I completed an 18 x 24 inch oil painting.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
