Wetli Family Barn

The Wetli family built this barn in 1942; it replaced an older barn that stood nearby. It is a two-story gable barn. The upper level loft is used for hay storage and the ground floor is home to newborn calves.

This style of barn is often referred to as a Midwest Three-Portal barn. Recently giant wind turbines have been constructed in the region and have surrounded the Wetli barn and farm. Their massive size and number appear to reduce the farm to the size of a toy. In contrast, this farm remains a central and very significant world for the Wetli family, since 1898.

In the fall of 2012, I completed some plein air sketches in graphite and also in oil. I also photographed the barn. Compiling my references, I created the oil painting in January 2013. It is 18 x 24 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
