Bugh-Creek Barn
A storm was brewing the summer afternoon when I arrived at the Jon Creek Farm to complete a plein air painting of the barn. The dark sky looms over the barn in the painting. The calm day would occasionally be punctuated by turbulent winds forecasting the impending storm.
Perry Bugh built the barn in 1898. In the 1920s the Creek family acquired the farm and barn. It is a three-bay pass-through barn.
Evidence of extra work in design and construction includes multiple wooden louvered vents that grace both sides of the barn and each gable end. The bargeboards are sculpted. Three old lightning rods, one with a wind vane, are evenly spaced along the roof's ridge.
Into the 1990s members of the Bugh family would periodically visit the Creek homestead and speak of wonderful memories the two families shared concerning the barn and farm.
The gusty winds continued through my painting process. The colors on the barn became muted but the grass turned a vivid green. Just as I completed the painting on that July day in 2014, the storm arrived and drove me into the safety of my car. I got wet but the oil painting stayed fairly dry. It is 18 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
