Wolski Family Barn

Leo Wolski purchased this rich farmland in 1909 and it has been in the same family since that time. It is located slightly east of San Pierre. In 2009, the farm earned the Indiana Hoosier Homestead Award.

It wasn't until the 1920s that Leo decided to build his white dairy barn. The 1920s would have coincided with the last dredging efforts on the nearby Kankakee River. For many years, dredging and ditching were undertaken to drain the vast marshland that historically covered many parts of northwest Indiana. Draining of this massive and rich marsh opened up many more acres of land in this area for farming.

The barn operated as a dairy until the 1950s; at present the barn is no longer used. The Wolski family has taken great care of the farm over the years, preserving the farm for future generations, sharing the love of the land and their heritage.

I arrived before sunrise on one November day 2010. I set up my easel and started oil painting as soon as the sun began to appear on the eastern horizon. The early warm glow was stunning on the white barn. I chose a format size of 14 x 24 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
