Allhands Family Barn
This large and stately barn is visible while traveling on Highway 40 near Lewisville. It turns the head of many passing by; even at a distance it is a very impressive sight.
The barn has three levels and was built in 1899-1900. It is placed on the side of a hill overlooking a vista of gently rolling fields, pastures, woods and the Flat Rock River. The large earthen approach to the wagon doors is thoughtfully placed to take advantage of the natural hill. It is a beautiful setting.
The original barn is a pegged timber-frame barn kept in very good condition. The stone foundation, visible in some areas, has utilized some massive stones in its construction. At a later date the barn was expanded on the north gable end.
The tranquil farm, including this barn, has been home to seven generations of the same family. The barn has had additions and improvements over the years and is still in use today and is a focal point on the farm.
The fall colors and the late afternoon glow provided a stunning view of this uniquely beautiful barn and its impressive surroundings. I set up my oil painting easel in October 2010 and proceeded to paint on an 18 x 36 inch canvas. A smaller size canvas would not have been sufficient.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
