Eric Hummeldorf Barn
This side hill English barn was carefully positioned within the steeply rolling hills above Tanners Creek in Southeastern Indiana. The original section of the barn complex is 49 x 30 feet. Since it is positioned on a steep grade, part of the barn is two levels; the lower level was used for animals.
A number of buildings on the farm, including the barn and corncrib, have foundations of beautifully stacked stone. The wooden structures are unpainted, giving the buildings an attractive patina. Many barns in southern Indiana are unpainted.
Over time, an additional barn was attached, reflecting the changes in the farming environment. The barn and other outbuildings are no longer used in a farming operation.
It was May 2009, when I discovered this stunning farm. I was enthralled with the variety of hues and values in the rich patina of the old wooden buildings. I set up my easel and oil painting supplies at the best angle to capture the barn; however, that happened to be on a steep slope. I slid down the sharp grade several times during this paint outing. It was worth the effort. The scene demanded a large canvas, so I chose one 18 x 36 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
