HDU Farms Barn

This elaborate and beautiful old barn is graced with details not often included on a barn. It is obvious that one of the main goals of the builder was to have an eye-pleasing structure as well as a sturdy and functional one. It has multiple double-arched louvered vents on both sides and on each gable end. The larger center vents on the gable ends have added details that took considerable time to create.

The high stone foundation required a significant earthen ramp leading to the upper level of the barn. Large wagon doors open on this level into the area used to store hay, straw and grain. The historic photo shows an ornate cupola that no longer exists. The barn was probably built in the 1870s since the home on the farm dates from that time frame. There is no record giving an exact date of construction.

It was a very early morning in April 2011 when I set up my easel to create an 18 x 24 inch oil painting. The dawn came softly through a bit of fog, adding some cool soft light to the golden hues of the barn. It was a task to capture the details, but I enjoyed the challenge.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
