Sherry Bell Tobacco Barn

This impressively tall gable barn is located on a slight incline with trees behind, making a picturesque scene. It was built in 1904 from pegged sawmill-cut timbers and was originally used as a cattle barn.

In 1963, this barn was converted into a tobacco barn. The hayloft was removed and metal ventilators were added. Tall vent doors were cut in and spaced on all four faces of the barn.

The tobacco plants are hung upside down on oak sticks in a very orderly manner to maximize capacity and ventilation. This fall oil painting, created on location, is 16 x 20 inches.

The rich golden hues of the drying tobacco plants are visible through the vents and provided a beautiful spark of color. It was October 2007.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
