Helton Barn
This gambrel-roofed bank barn was built circa 1877, in northern Steuben County. The original foundation of dressed stone continues to support this gem. Parts of the barn are original while other features have been added.
Through the passage of time, the barn's purpose has evolved; in 1965, the barn changed from a home for cattle to a home for antiques.
Interior walls were developed into interesting spaces inside for antiques. Boards for the walls were repurposed siding from an old barn that was torn down. Once an active farm building, the old double corncrib was altered and attached to the barn. It is visible in the painting with the ornate cupola on top. Over time this barn and surrounding area has been lovingly tended and improved.
I visited this barn just after a snowstorm when it was below zero. Photographs provided the references needed to complete this 18 x 36 inch oil painting in February 2008. I worked in the warmth of my studio.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
