Jerred Reiff Round Barn
This unusual “round” barn has twelve sides; its construction was started in 1911 and finished in 1914. It has vertical siding made of Sugar Maple. The roof is self-supporting and crowned with a cupola and a whimsical wind vane.
The upper level of the barn is accessible by an earthen ramp leading to the only outside door for this level; it is shown in the painting.
From the upper level one can see inside the cupola and marvel at the roof’s architecture. The circular hay track is still in place.
Although this barn is no longer in use for livestock, it is well-loved and cared for.
It was May 2011, when I set out very early to capture the long early morning light on the side of this barn. I was enthralled with the sculpted shadow patterns and the reflected light and color within the shadows. The shadow was much warmer on the east (right) side of the barn and moved cooler and darker curving around to the west side. It was an exciting paint day. I completed an 18 x 24 inch oil painting on a canvas.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
