Spanger Family Barn

The eastern boundary of Knox County is formed by the White River. The Spanger farm is located near this area. The farm has been in the family for over 100 years. The farmhouse was built around 1888, but an exact construction date for this old barn is not known.

It appears to be a Midwest three-portal barn, but it has been altered over the years. The older part of the barn shows remnants of old stalls and feeding mangers. The hayloft is still being used to store hay and straw, but the barn is mostly retired.

Storm clouds started moving in the day I stopped and visited with the Spanger family about their barn. It is a modest structure, but well-loved and treasured. I completed a 12 x 16 inch oil painting in my studio in January 2016.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
