Joyce White Round Barn
This 60-foot diameter round barn is presumed to have been built in 1905 and has been in Joyce's family since the 1940s. There is a bit of discrepancy about its age; some date this barn to 1911.
It has an unusually squat cupola with lattice instead of windows or vents. The loft features a circular pulley hayfork system. When built, this innovative design allowed one person the ability to easily feed animals located in different areas of the barn.
Another unusual feature of this barn is the two matching gable-roofed entries to the pass-through. They are visible in the painting. The barn has been multi-purpose over the years. Currently, it is used to store farm equipment.
In October 2010, I set up my plein air oil painting supplies very early in the morning. My goal was to capture the first light, the stunning reflected colors and the arched shadow shapes as the light fell across the round barn. It was a challenge, but one l enjoyed. I picked a canvas size 16 x 20 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
