Kathleen Nichols Barn
This very old barn is an early treasure, built around 1859. The attractive stone foundation has been maintained and exhibits integrity after all these years of service. The approach to the upper level on the west side is an earthen ramp.
Louvered vents, with distinctively cut framing, are plentiful on both sides and on each gable end. They would have provided the ventilation needed for the stored hay above and the animals in the stable area below. Painted a contrasting color, the many well-placed vents add real visual beauty.
The stone foundation supports huge hewn timbers and logs closely placed for extra sturdiness. Some of the logs still have bark on them. The Dutch doors located on the lower stable side of the barn, still have their original hardware of unique hinges and latches.
The barn has been well-maintained and loved over the years and is used for storage.
Meeting wonderful people such as Kathleen while working on this project, was an amazing delight. It was something I hadn't expected, but definitely treasure. I set up my easel late in the day to capture the evening glow on the barn. It was May 2012. The oil painting size is 18 x 30 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
