Rashce Family Log Barn

The beautiful rolling countryside of Dubois County hugs all four sides of this farm and its old log barn. Built by early Rasche family members in 1888, it is a double-crib log barn placed carefully on huge stones, some of which are dressed.

A stacked-stone foundation, approximately four feet in height, is still visible on the lower south side of the barn. Beautifully hand-hewn logs have held securely for all these years. For added protection against the wind and cold, Poplar planks had been placed over the stable area logs. A few still remain and are 17 inches in width. In 1950 and 1990 changes and additions increased the barn's overall size and function.

The barn is well-maintained and currently used for storage.

I spent quite a while taking in the amazing features of this barn and its surroundings. Later, using my compiled reference materials, I completed the 18 x 24 inch oil painting in my studio in February 2013.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
