Lyon Farms Barn

The Lyon family brick and tile barn is one worthy and significant example of Indiana’s past. The barn was built in the early 1900s. It is a large and elaborate brick and glazed tile dairy barn. Much of its history remains undiscovered.

Extensive efforts were made to build an attractive building with the contrast and pattern between the light colored bricks and the larger and darker red/ brown-colored glazed tiles. Considering its size, the barn must have held a sizable dairy herd and been quite busy throughout each day.

Although the barn is no longer used for dairy, the family considers it a treasure. They continue to farm and work with animals in other buildings surrounding this old gem.

I discovered this barn while driving around Clay County in December 2015. It was too cold to paint, but I spent a good deal of time making sketches and notes on colors. I photographed it and completed a studio oil painting size 15 x 25 inches in June, 2016.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
