Nancy Gross-Zell Barn

The current owners of this barn and farm can trace their family heritage back to the mid 1800s. The farm hosts a variety of older buildings dating to that time. The barn shown in this painting is the newest addition to the farm and was built in 1914.

The family's interest in their heritage and overall preservation is evident in how they have cared for their barn as well as the other historic farm buildings.

I set up my on-location oil painting supplies at the confluence of a cornfield and an old hog barn to get the perspective I wanted to capture this scene. After a while into the quiet painting process, I was startled by the intense odor of a skunk. It was very close!

I didn't want to move quickly or even turn around and look, thinking that could only make the situation worse. So, I spoke softly and continued. The odorous critter departed only to return three or four more times while I painted. I didn't look or move, but spoke softly.

After finishing the 15 x 24 inch painting, I quickly packed up and escaped! It was July 2014.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
