Paxson Family Barn

Joseph E. Paxson acquired the farm in 1873; the family believed he built this barn soon thereafter Joseph was a barn builder and traveled around the area building barns for many farmers in the region. This three-level T-shaped barn is built on a slight grade. The "top" part of the Tis shown in the painting.

The "leg" of the T is slightly lower in grade. It was used for animals and has a dirt floor. The barn exhibits beautifully hand-hewn timbers, several spanning the entire 40 feet without splicing. The interior construction, showing the joining of the two parts of the T-shape, is very impressive. The barn has remained within the Paxson family since it was built.

Traveling and painting introduced me to so many fine people. The Paxsons were so kind and very excited about me doing a painting of their barn. While I oil painted, they worked in their garden. It was a morning painting completed in July 2009 on a canvas size 12 x 24 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
