Sigo Family Barn
Charles Sigo built this gambrel-roofed barn in 1899. His employer, A.J. Kent, loaned the money needed to purchase his farm. The town of Kentland, located in nearby Newton County, is named after Mr. Kent, one of the region’s early influential citizens. Charles Sigo had thirteen children on this 300-acre farm with this barn as its hub. The farm was active and successful, providing for their large family.
A corncrib-type barn is also included in the painting. It held and dried the harvested corn while still on the cob. Until recently, the barn and farm had remained within the extended family.
I set up my plein air oil painting easel on a late afternoon to capture the light and shadows on the west face of the barn. It was the summer of 2007 and my canvas of choice for this barn was 8 x 16 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
