Peason Barn
Historically located in an elbow of Walnut Creek, this farm and barn are at home in a beautiful and fertile area of the county.
The well-maintained barn has been in the same family since the home, barn, milk house and other outbuildings were built in 1916. The gable-roofed barn was built from a combination of hand-hewn and sawmill-cut timbers that still show their wooden pegs. The barn has gone through some extensive renovations. At some point, walls were added as well as extra structural support.
The barn is a very significant part of the family. It is used for entertainment and important family gatherings.
When painting on location it is often necessary to rearrange or even remove objects to capture the best expression of a barn and farm. In this instance, I removed a large tree branch and reduced the size of a bush because they were too obstructive. I wanted to show more of the "face" of the barn. I set up my plein air oil painting supplies to complete this painting as the late afternoon light streamed across the front of the barn. The subtle variations of white were an exciting challenge. It was in May 2014 and the canvas size is 18 x 24 inches.
All the barn paintings are for sale. Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
