The barn is plentifully graced with sculpted wooden louvered vents, painted green. A number of years ago, sixteen of the vents needed replacing. The owners, wanting to preserve the historic integrity of the barn, made a template from one of the good vents and had replacements made. A nearby resident, accused of murder as well as a number of burglaries and other unsavory activities, had escaped from a prison in Ohio. He returned to the Noble County area, which was his home. The criminal, wishing to avoid recapture, stole a horse and buggy from this barn in 1907. He fled to the Van Wert, Ohio area where he was apprehended.
