William Jones Family Barn

While the word “barn” immediately paints a picture of big and red, every now and then we do discover what are known as "rare" finds.

This monitor-roofed barn is just such a find. The "monitor" is a raised and roofed area atop a roof, extending its length. The construction date of 1908 was carved into a beam on the east end. The interior was built from a mix of hand-hewn and sawmill-cut timbers all pegged.

The owners purchased the farm with this unique barn in 1985. They are taking care to restore the barn to its original beauty.

I tried to paint this barn on several occasions, foiled by the weather. Finally in August, 2014, I succeeded. I set up my oil painting supplies with a good perspective on the western and southern faces and painted in the late afternoon. Sometimes objects need to be moved or taken completely out to achieve the best composition. In this case, I moved the light pole over so it did not line up with the edge of the barn. Other objects were completely removed. Rich colors shimmered within the cast shadows. The painting is 15 x 24 inches.

All the barn paintings are for sale.  Please contact Gwen to find out if the painting(s) you are interested in are sold or available.
